ANNUAL EVENTS
Third party groups often partner with Variety throughout the year to put on fundraising initiatives such as Golf Tournaments, Dinners, Auctions, or other creative events. Variety relies on these initiatives, and we are always open to suggestions and innovative ideas from third party groups.
Volunteer committee members along with Variety staff co-ordinate and plan the following events each year.
Gold Heart Gala (Spring)
The annual gala is one of the 'go to' events of our Variety calendar year! The Gala began as the Celebrity Dinner, which followed the Annual Variety Telethon. Each Gala offers a creative new theme, and Variety partners and friends come out to enjoy an evening of fun, dancing, prizes, and great food. Sponsorship Opportunities include Corporate Table Sponsorships, Centerpiece Sponsor or Prize Sponsorships. This year Variety celebrated a very special milestone during our 30th Anniversary Gold Heart "Champagne and Pearls" Gala. Our Live Auction raised close to $50,000.00 which included the purchase of medical equipment and specialized items for children.
SUBWAY Golf Tournament in support of Variety (Summer)
The SUBWAY Tournament celebrated its 11th year in 2008, and $569,000.00 has been raised since its inception. This great day of golf features valuable prizes, on-course activities, lunch provided by SUBWAY and a delicious banquet following the tournament. Sponsorship opportunities include Hole Sponsors, Cart Sponsor, as well as other excellent partnership options. In 2009 the tournament is moving to Niakwa Country Club. Please mark Monday, June 22nd on your calendars!
Gold Heart Humanitarian of the Year Award Dinner (Fall)
A new recipient is selected each year to receive the 'Humanitarian of the Year' Award. Recipients are selected based on their outstanding commitment to Manitoba. This year Variety was delighted to honour Mr. Bill Knight. Past recipients include: Earl Barish, John and Bonnie Buhler, Rodney Steiman, John Kadynuik and Leonard Baranyk, Janice Filmon, Gail Asper, and Doug Stephen. Sponsorship Opportunities include Corporate Table purchase and Dinner Sponsor.
Art for the Heart (Fall, Bi-Annual Event)
This marquis event, held every second year, is a much-anticipated Manitoba fundraiser. Well known Manitobans create fantastic art pieces, which are auctioned to the highest bidder during the evening. Mayberry Fine Art Gallery is a major sponsor, donating all the art supplies, providing an artist's coach and in addition looks after framing each unique piece of art. The Delta Winnipeg donates and serves gourmet appetizers and desserts while the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission provides the wines and spirits. In 2007 over 300 guests enjoyed a very fun evening and contributed to an amazing $72,000.00 being raised thanks in part to the very competitive bidding for Charlie Spiring's acrylic on canvas titled "Hit the Bid"! Art for the Heart events have included pieces from: Jim and Jan Tennant, Bob Silver, Graeme Sifton, Thomas Steen, Dave Angus, Aidan O'Brien, Doneta Brotchie, Premier Gary Doer, Mayor Sam Katz, Carol Bellringer, Rita Van Leeuwen, John Buhler, and many other notable citizens from Manitoba's corporate, political, media, and business communities.
Hearts of Blue and Gold Bomber Dinners
Earl's Restaurants have partnered with Variety to provide the Bomber Buddies Section at the Winnipeg Football Stadium. In support of this initiative, which enables Variety families to attend Bomber home games throughout the Football season, Earl's Restaurants on Main Street and on Pembina Highway host Fundraising Dinners throughout the year. These dinners are often sold out, as they offer guests an opportunity to meet and greet Bomber stars, both past and present.
